Shawna Hyzims

My name is Shawna Hyzims, but I usually go by Abby. I was born at Mill Memorial hospital in Terrace, BC, though I was raised in Gitanyow. The House group I belong to is Wii Litsxw, I am Gitxsan. I belong to a dance group from Gitanyow. I graduated from Hazelton Secondary before coming to the Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art, where I am a first year student.

“Since grade 9 I have wanted to be an artist; for the most the time I drew Anime style pictures, but I’d like to learn more native designs. I realized that I hadn’t drew any crests since high school. One day I would like to help kids learn by going back to Gitanyow to teach them our history and stories and to draw.”
