Northern Exposure 2011: Freda Diesing School of NWC ArtMay 28 - June 18 The Spirit Wrestler Gallery is pleased to host the 5th annual Northern Exposure exhibition representing the graduating students and instructors of the Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art (Northwest Community College). The school continues to widen its mandate and now has a network that includes Maori colleges in New Zealand, the Emily Carr University of Art and Design in Vancouver, the YVR Art Foundation Scholarship program (Vancouver International Airport), partnerships with various museums and cultural centres throughout British Columbia and a guest lecture series including prominent Northwest Coast artists. Early in the development of their curriculum, the Spirit Wrestler Gallery was approached about hosting a graduating exhibition that would offer the students the opportunity to learn about the responsibilities of both the artist and the gallery in preparing for a major exhibition. Each year the gallery exhibition is timed to coincide with the presentation of the YVR Art Foundation Scholarship and the students try to make the trip to Vancouver for both events.

"When I was first nominated, I was a little more confident. Then I went online and read Jordan Canning’s and Jordan Bennett’s bios, and I realized what I was up against, and I got quite nervous. I really didn’t expect this."
