Kimmirut
Nunavut Territory, Canada
Kimmirut (known as Lake Harbour until 1 January 1996) is located on the shore of Hudson Strait in Canada’s Nunavut Territory. Kimmirut means “heel”, and refers to a rocky outcrop in the inlet.
The community is served by air and by annual supply sea-lift. A proposal in 2005 for a road to Iqaluit was shown to be impractical due to round-about routing over the mountains.
Population is 433 according to the 2001 Census of which the majority of the population is Inuit.
