“The One That Got Away!”

by

“I have tried to capture the moment when the fish jumps from the water and broke the line. The hard part was finding a suitable size piece of moose antler at the right thickness to carve. The fish is all carved in one piece of antler. It took me some time to carve all the fins but I really enjoyed making it. I was also happy with the natural colouring in the antler as this seemed to be similar to the markings on the fish. The shape and proportions of this fish are exact to an Arctic Char but these subtle differences might only be recognized by an angler. I studied photos of Arctic Char in several books — and also modeled it on a real one sitting in our freezer!”
