A playful piece — I try to find the best position of the stone, where the image will have some movement. With this one, I had the Owl stand on one leg with his left wing folded over it, and with his right leg sticking up in the air… which allowed me to add a foot. The title came from the position of the foot and how the wing touches it.

Massie’s work is a reflection of his mixed Inuit, Métis and Scottish heritage. In it, he investigates both traditional and contemporary themes. Massie has been twice short-listed for the coveted Prix Saidye Bronfman and has an extensive international reputation. His work has been shown in North America and Europe, including the National Gallery of Canada. He was elected a member of Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 2011.
