This piece is about me, and while there are some that think that all of my work is but a reflection, in this case I thought I would state it that way. As I worked on this one it just reminded me of how it is when I go places — conferences, slide presentations, and lectures — all that time-sensitive, stressful stuff! Every time I have to do these things, I usually leave home one day, do the talk the next, and fly back home (to the safety of my studio) the day after — all without breaks. That is why I chose this title… instead of “without brakes..”. but maybe both are true!

Massie’s work is a reflection of his mixed Inuit, Métis and Scottish heritage. In it, he investigates both traditional and contemporary themes. He has achieved renown for his innovative teapots that combine themes and symbols from his native Inuit culture with European traditions. Massie has been twice short-listed for the coveted Prix Saidye Bronfman and has an extensive international reputation. His work has been shown in North America and Europe, including the National Gallery of Canada. He was elected a member of Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 2011.
