“Spirit of Thunderbird” Mask (South)

  • Medium: red cedar
  • Size: 14.5 × 11 × 12 inches
  • Reference Code: W101205

“This mask represents thunder rolling off the beach. A man is crying on the beach for the loss of his wife. He felt a powerful presence as it was the last and fourth day of mourning and he could now let his wife’s spirit journey home to the great beyond. It suddenly became dark and he saw the great thunderbird throwing its thunder and lightening onto the beach. It began hailing with hail the size of pebbles onto the beach. He was told to take some of the hail as it will not melt and to use the pebbles in a rattle for all ceremonies. This sound comes from the Spirit of Thunderbird.”
