Dog Warriors

I had been searching for an image of a warrior dog for several years. In 2004, I was travelling in Canada from Terrace to Prince Rupert with my Tahltan-Tlingit artist friends Dempsey Bob and Stan Bevan. We were surrounded by stunning stone mountains that were shrouded in mist, soft rain and snow. We had seen bears, eagles, ravens and totem poles and had walked in the forest over ancestral land. I could feel the power and spirit of their land. When I returned to New Zealand, I transformed the power and spirit of their land and painted Dog Warriors. When Dempsey Bob saw the painting he commented with a sly grin, “Your work has changed.”
