We also have the story of Kiviuq’s goose-wife represented by Ningeokuluk in Kiviuq Nulianga. In this legend, Kiviuq is attracted to a flock of geese who have taken off their feather coats and turned into men and women. He takes one of the women for his wife, but she misses her flock too much and soon begins to gather feathers. When she has enough she makes herself a coat and flies away.
—from the foreword by Leslie Boyd Ryan and John Westren
“A couple of years ago I made Shaman Revealed, a drawing that was based on the Kiviuq legend of a woman turning into a fox. I wanted to show how people could change from one thing to another but still be the same person. A zipper came to mind and I thought, that’s a really nice idea, so I used the zipper to show how they change.”
