“Owl Spirit is an ancestor who has gone before us. The four directions are represented by colours, black is west, yellow is south, red is east and white represents someone who is coming from the north. When our life is cut short and we have not finished our job here on earth, then we have a place where our spirit goes and that is often at times in becoming an owl. The owl will show itself and will tell you where he or she is. This mask shows the owl in a human form. This is only part of our spirituality.”
Tim is a Nuu-chah-nulth artist from Esperanza Inlet on Vancouver Island. He left this position to oversee a program focussing on Native education for the Port Alberni School Board and Vancouver Island.
