“This sculpture I worked on for three months and somehow it just never seemed to end as I kept on adding pieces to it. This sculpture has over seventy tiny inlays and it took many hours to carve the additional pieces like the amulets around his neck and the harpoon. The sinew I actually removed from the back leg of a caribou that my dad had shot. I cleaned and braided the sinew for this sculpture. The same applies to the porcupine claws. In Labrador, we enjoy hunting and eating seal, caribou and porcupine. I had the same difficulty getting the balance right on this sculpture and carving the antler so thin, especially where the marrow runs though and the antler becomes much weaker. I carved both sides using the two natural colours of the antler and trying to capture a fluid motion in the spirit”.
