This is the island off the Porirua coast and its full name is the “Mana of Kupe of Moana Nui a Kiwa”. He was one of the great early Polynesian navigators who arrived in New Zealand a thousand years ago. The Mana Island paintings also celebrate the local tribe Ngati Toa and their chief Te Rauparaha who was the composer of the famous Maori haka Kamate Kamate.
