“When I first started chipping away at this piece I was very excited with the idea that I had in mind. Will it become the piece that I had originally planned or will the stone dictate a series of changes? Will the stone allow me to be able to achieve the detailing I want? These are the questions I often ask myself, before and during the sculpting process. More than others, this time the shape and quality of the stone dictated what this piece was going to become. The title reflects the transition from stone to a sculpture, the shaman becoming a bird and yet leaves the fulfilment of the transition to the imagination. Compared to my original sketch, the end result was balanced even better than I expected. I must admit that I am pleased with the piece as I learned a lot from carving this sculpture.”
