The original painting belongs to one of my favourite people and dear friend, the late Edward Goldsmith in Britain. Te Kotuku’s bush is the historical forest where I played as a child. It had sacred trees my mother said that we could not touch because if we damaged the branch it would bleed human blood. It had wonderful stories of the White Heron (Kotuku). The story of the Kotuku himself who was a sacred man who lived in that forest. It was a story told to her by her elders and recited to me by her.—Darcy Nicholas
