Amanda Dionne Hugon

Sto:lo Nation

Terrace, British Columbia

(1982- )

Amanda Dionne Hugon was born in Chilliwack, BC in 1982. She is relatives with the Dan and Douglas families of Cheam and Sto:lo nations. Amanda has been living in Terrace since 1993. She is currently enrolled in the First Nations Fine Arts program at the Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art. Amanda hopes to learn more about her culture and heritage through this program. Hugo has always been interested in creating something new and unexpected and is a self taught mixed media artist. Her most recent works are “belly casts”, where she plasters pregnant bellies and decorates them for moms to be. She feels these pieces are a way to show women how big and beautiful they truly are. These projects attracted another artist, who invited her to take part in “The Breast Project” which was an exhibition that brought awareness surrounding the dangers of breast implants. Amanda painted 5 of the 150 models for this project, which were then photographed and displayed at the Terrace Art Gallery, Spring 2015. An encore of this show will be in Kitimat Spring 2016. Amanda feels that art is truly meant to heal the soul.
