“A sensitive and informed interpretation of the artist’s works themselves and of Bill Reid as a creative individual… Shadbolt’s book is superb.” —Canadian Art
When Bill Reid, one of North America’s great artists, died on March 13, 1998, he left behind a legacy of magnificent art that drew deeply on that of his Haida ancestors. His work continues to be exhibited internationally and is in many private and public collections around the world. This book celebrates the artist and his work.
Doris Shadbolt is one of Canada’s most respected and influential art critics and curators. Her long association with the museum world has included positions at the Art Gallery of Toronto (now the Art Gallery of Ontario), the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, the Metropolitan Museum in New York and particularly the Vancouver Art Gallery, where she was the energy behind many major exhibitions such as Arts of the Raven (1967), New York 13 (1969), Emily Carr: A Centennial Exhibition (1971) and Sculpture of the Inuit (1969). Her book include The Art of Emily Carr and Emily Carr. She was awarded the Order of Canada in 1976.
