“Way out at sea — lands beyond the horizon. Every so often right on the horizon, a huge face would come up from the depth of the ocean, from the deep blue it shows itself. The Chief from the Sea would be pushed up by the Killerwhale.

“It was the sealers or the whalers that would witness this occurrence. Our people would then know that something huge was about to happen — earthquake, floods, devastation. They were given the special privilege to foresee what was to come (nac-nac-a, to foresee). Preparation for that coming devastation immediately began when the Sea-Chief showed himself. This hitcu is to our people so we always knew.”
