Spirit Wrestler Gallery (Vancouver, Canada)

Masi Wines, a 7th generation family-owned Italian winery has commissioned Coast Salish artist Susan Point to create an art label for their biannual Masi Contemporary Art Project. Every two years Masi chooses an internationally famous artist coming from a country with links to Masi and its wines to create a work of art dedicated to its icon wine, Costasera Amarone. Artists from Switzerland and Sweden were previous recipients of this honour. There will be 112 cases of 6 bottles each that will be produced and available in British Columbia liquor stores in May.  A catalogue and presentation box will be included with each bottle.

The label is based on a design titled Traditional Legacy specifically created for this project. Seven colour proof prints were created each in a different colour and the Spirit Wrestler Gallery is pleased to represent one of these exclusive prints in black and wine red.

Susan Point

Coast Salish (Musqueam)

(1952- )

Susan began making limited edition prints on her kitchen table in 1981 while working as a legal secretary. She received several early commissions, which established her reputation for innovative proposals and for completing projects on time, on budget and at the highest level. She took courses in silver, casting and carving, all of which led to monumental sculptures in mixed media, and she was the first Northwest Coast artist to work in glass. She continues to release a number of print editions each year, but her focus has been on commissioned sculpture.
