“He began carving when he was a teenager and his first works were human figures in stone, usually holding ivory harpoons. Dogteams became a specialty and Tungilik remembers carving these completely from ivory, including the harnesses. This was a difficult task, however, and visual records of his work show that he was using sinew and other natural substances in his complex scenes of the 1950s.” Darlene Wight Marc Tungilik—Recent Sculpture 1982
