False embroidery is the technique for the design of “spear barb” (variation of the “half the head of a salmon berry”). It is one of my favorite designs. I received a basket that my great aunt, Katherine George-Grant, had woven. She was a great weaver. The basket had this design on it. It was my favorite design before I recieved the basket but after it had even more meaning to me!
Diane is a Haida artist from Ketchikan, Alaska. She is an instructor in the Totem Heritage Center’s internationally recognized Northwest Coast Native Arts program. Her woven cedar baskets have won both “Best of the Division” and 1st place at the prestigious Santa Fe Indian Market in New Mexico.
