Alder, Abalone

The Copper One was the first man to settle on the upper Kimsquit River in the beginning of time. Kimsquit is one of many Nuxalk Nations territories. He was also a high ranking chief of the Copper Village. We wear our crest on our foreheads, the face on top with the abalone inlays represents a chiefs frontlet. His arms are emerging from the copper which are also holding up the copper. The main face painted blue is the Copper One. It is said that he was so wealthy, whenever visitors would arrive in his village they would lay out copper for the canoes to dock on. At the bottom are his sons. In my ancestors time, copper represented wealth.
