“Smoke Gets in Your Eyes”

“I really enjoy carving character portraits. This one had me smiling as anyone who has travelled to the North knows that so many Inuit smoke. They carry on doing all their daily activities with a cigarette hanging out of the corner of their mouth.

The stones come from three places, anhydrite used on the face is from Newfoundland, the anhydrite on the base is from New Brunswick, and the serpentine on the hood is from Labrador. I burnt the ivory cigarette to get the look of real ash. The The title is inspired from the old Platters song”.
