I was born in Prince Rupert, B.C. I am Tsimshian from Kitsumkalum from my mother’s side and Nisga’a from Canyon City on my father’s side. My family crest is the Killerwhale. I am currently finishing my second year of the Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art.
What drew me to become a carver were the influential people in my life. My grandfather, Ben Bolton, was a carver. I know that some of his pieces are in the collection of the UBC Museum of Anthropology. I would guess that he was my biggest influence as a young artist just starting out.
I would say that I am very in-tune with nature. My dad always told me that I was a survivor. To me that means a lot! In the future, I would like to give my knowledge back by teaching in the future. I know I have a long way to go but I know that my instructors will help me along the way.
The future looks positive.
