Adamie was born at Sam Ford Fiord and grew up in Clyde River. He learned to carve in the early 1960s by watching his father, Peter Paneak. Adamie attended a bronze casting course in Vancouver in 1993. He works in Clyde River marble, soapstone, and also makes jewellery from ivory. Adamie also sings and plays guitar. His wife, Igah Paneak, is an artist in Clyde River.
In 1991, Paneak was chosen as one of two first participants in Arctic College’s Mentoring Program. He studied with B.C. sculptor and graphic artist John McKinnon.
