Stephanie Anderson is from the Laksilyu clan, Small Frog. Her house is Kwen Beegh Yex, “House beside the fire”. Her family is from Witset, British Columbia, part of the Wet’suwet’en nation. Maternally she is Wet’suwet’en and her grandmother is Violet Gellenbeck. She currently lives in Terrace, British Columbia located on the Skeena River and traditional Tsimshian territory. In 2009 she enrolled at Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art, completing her Fine Arts Diploma in 2011. She has exhibited artwork across British Columbia including Vancouver, Terrace, and Kitimat. She received the 2011 YVR Youth Scholarship which involved her artwork on display for a year at YVR.
She enrolled in the Advanced Diploma program at Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art and completed her studies in sculpture, silversmithing, and business in April of 2019. She was the recipient of the Bill McLennan Grant, Presidents Choice Award Honorable Mention, and the YVR Emerging Artist Award 2019. She is currently working on a 36” round high relief panel with mentor Ken McNeil for her YVR project, to be completed by April 2020.
