Titus is from Kitselas on the Skeena River near Terrace, BC. He was first taught by Coast Salish carver Simon Charlie in Duncan, BC, on Vancouver Island in 1985. This was followed by a sixteen week Northwest Community College carving course at Kitselas in 1994 taught by Stan Bevan, Ken McNeil and Dempsey Bob. Titus is completing the second year of the Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art program at NWCC in Terrace, BC with instructors Stan Bevan, Ken McNeil and Dempsey Bob.
“My grandfather said to me in sign language once when I was small: ‘You should learn to carve.’ The challenge of learning traditional Tsimshian art forms has influenced me to keep learning so I can pass my techniques on to my children.”
