Daniel started carving at the age of 11. He learned from his father, Joseph Sam Annanack who most often carved caribou antler, abundant since caribou migrations occur in the region. Today, Daniel is a skilled artist whose work typically consists of animals or scenes carved into antler in bas-relief fashion.
Daniel is also well-known for his activities in dog sledding but his full time occupation is teaching. He teaches manual skills to special-needs students at the Kangiqsualujjuaq school and, on his own time, carving techniques to budding artists.
