Keith, Shakoon, by his Tlingit name lives at the small northern community of Teslin. Teslin is located 103 km south of Whitehorse and has a population of 450 people.
Keith has been carving for over 15 years and in the early 1980s was a student of Dempsey Bob. He has studied wood carving in Alaska, British Columbia, and has spent time in Japan.
Carving has led to a lifelong personal journey of discovery of his Tagish-Tlingit ancestry. The Tlingit dancers wear his masks, hats and frontlets as they perform the stories legends and songs of their culture.
Keith’s work can be found in Canada’s National collection of Indian Art, public collections, corporate and private collection throughout North America, Europe, and Japan.
