Marc Alikaswa

Marc was born near the Manitoba border, and is the son of a well-known shaman, Idjuadjuk. He has lived most of his life in Arviat, except for a few years when he worked in Rankin Inlet and Tikirarjuaq (Whale Cove). He began carving in 1967, and likes to carve from his imagination. His favourite subjects to carve are human figures and polar bears. Marc is married to carver Simona Kaslak Alikaswa. Their daughter, Mary Ann Alikaswa, is one of seven children. She is a wallhanging and crafts artist in Arviat.
