Nisga’a Nation, Grizzly Bear tribe

(1960- )

“Whatever you put into your work is what you get out of it.”

Vivian Watson was born on March 23, 1960 in Old Aiyansh BC. Vivian is from the Nisga’a Nation and is from the Grizzly Bear tribe, her Nisga’a name is Axdiibux.

Vivian has worked with Coast Mountain School District for eleven years, where she worked with various carvers in classes in the Carving Program. For the last two years Vivian has worked with Sandra Wesley a former student of the Freda Diesing School. Sandra has taught Vivian various methods of working with cedar bark and making fire bags. Vivian has been happy to participate in all of the Art Exhibits in 2014.

In the future Vivian would love for her art to be well known. She would also love for her family to be wearing her designs on their regalia, purses, coats, and varying the the homes of collectors.

Vivian was told by her co-workers before coming to the program that she would do well in the First Nation Fine Arts program and would also make great carving teacher when the end of the two years diploma program. So here is where her journey of being a carver and artist starts.
