Philomen Nattuk is a talented artist who started carving when he was 14-years-old. He then realized that he liked carving and that he had an aptitude for it. He has been carving for more than 25 years.
Local teacher Marion Stanford says that “Philomen was an extraordinary talent.” He takes his time with details “in all his work and the end result is a beautifully finished product.” Philomen is considered to be “one of the best” local carvers and his work is “sought after by locals and visitors alike.”
Philomen’s favourite subjects are animals, such as belugas, narwhals and bears, as well as figures, such as hunters and drum dancers. He uses power tools for his carvings for achieving fine details. Philomen also makes jewellery, including polar bear pins and ivory rings.
