“Elisepee Itulu was born in 1956 in Kimmirut and is the daughter of the well-known printmaker and carver Davidee Itulu. As a young girl she began serpentine carving but later decided to pursue the discipline of printmaking. She graduated with distinction from Arctic College’s printmaking program in Iqaluit in 1994. Itulu recently began using her stencilling techniques as a means to illustrate traditional stories told by her father. Before she begins the printmaking process, she completes detailed drawings of the image in coloured pencil and graphite. She has also worked with wood-block and etching techniques.”
Inuit Art Quarterly, “Kimmirut 1996: The Artists”, Vol. 11, No. 4, Winter 1996, page 25
Elisepee’s parents, Davidee and Eva, are both well-known artists. Her brothers, Jimmy, Charlie and Kulula are also artists in Kimmirut.
